Cleshar were awarded the contract to design and install a new passing loop on the London Tramlink Network. The new loop at Elmers end is part of the capacity improvement works on London Tramlink, with the introduction of 6 new trams. The new loop will allow the trams to pass, increasing operation capacity on the network.
Scope of works
Production of the detailed design for all disciplines including civils works, track works and overhead line elements. • On site works required the removal of an existing redundant siding and installation of two bespoke turnouts and associated track to form the new loop.
One of the key deliverables for London Tramlink was for works to be completed in line with the introduction of a new timetable set for the 18th June 2012. Programme constraints demanded that long lead procurement and detailed design has had to be undertaken in a parallel timeframe. To meet this key deliverable several options were explored and by working closely with London Tramlink the most economic and least disruptive option to deliver the project on time and within budget was agreed. An extended weekend possession was undertaken to carry out all the civils and enabling works followed by a blockade on the mainline to install and commission the new track layout, the overhead line equipment and to facilitate the signals installation being undertaken by Tramlink.
