Brockley Platform Enhancement
Brockley Station was subject to passenger platform congestion.
Cleshar were Principal Designer and Contractor to widen existing platform areas and design and construct a new waiting shelter, coffee shop and external waiting areas at the north end of site.
This project included Civils, Premises, M&E, and Telecommunications enhancements.
Scope of the works
Surveys including slit trenches, confined space drainage inspections and M&E
Demolition of existing structures and excavation of the Embankment
Installation of a new concrete structure
Erection of a new station waiting shelter and coffee shop
Installation of a new structural boundary fence
Installation of new M&E, Telecommunications and Drainage systems
Creating a new waiting area on the north end of site to ease passenger congestion in at the bottom of the under bridge.

Cleshar reduced both inconvenience and access issues by developing third party agreements with delivery companies. This helped us overcome obstruction and design challenges caused by a Victorian drainage route that was present within the embankment.
The original plan was to install sheet piles as the embankment retention. This was redesigned when we discovered the existence of the Victorian drainage route. Instead, we adapted the design, encompassing a “benched back” solution which eliminated the need for sheet piles. This change in methodology allowed us to design the shelter 30% larger than originally planned.
Cleshar undertook excavations, breaking operations and lifting using a 13-ton excavator, all during daytime working hours and used All Lines Open safe working methodologies. Modern sound suppression equipment (e.g., sound barriers and tents) ensured station users and residents were not impacted by noise pollution.
Benefits / Project Outcome
Cleshar completed the project on time and to budget with 30% additional waiting area for the station users.
No noise complaints were received, and all station operations were maintained without any disruption to services.
